Description: The Soroban console typewriter was one of the most time-consuming elements of the PDP-1 restoration. The Soroban was a very intricate mechanical marvel and it was known to be unreliable even when it was new. Luckily, a local typewriter repair shop was found that could fix the basic typewriter mechanism, and the team fixed the parts that interfaced the typewriter to the computer.
