Elliott Brothers

Elliott Brothers were a major electrical engineering firm in Britain. They had a long association with the British Navy and supplied them with fire control (gunnery) equipment. They began their computer production in the early 1950s with their initial products being designed, once again, for the Navy.

Many of the early British firms (e.g., Ferranti, English Electric, or Lyons & Company) produced computers based on developments at various university or government laboratories but Elliott’s were developed in their own extensive research laboratories. Elliott Brothers computer division was eventually merged into the firm of International Computers Limited (ICL).
