Kenneth H. (Ken) Olsen founded Digital Equipment Corporation in 1957 and served as its President until his retirement in 1992. Before that, he was on the staff of the MIT Digital Computer Laboratory for seven years, where he led a group at MIT's Lincoln Laboratories in designing and constructing the MTC computer used in the SAGE Air Defense Computer design program.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of Polaroid Corporation and the Corporation at MIT. With Robert Everett, he co-founded The Computer Museum and was its first Chairman. He has received many awards, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He also received the MCI Communications Information Technology Leadership Award for Innovation, given by the Computer World Smithsonian awards, as well as the Founder's Medal from the IEEE and the National Medal of Technology. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from MIT.
